Dunkeld is a city - apparently it used to be really important - at the junction of two major roads or something. I think it used to be the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland at one point.

It's one of the three smallest in the UK (along with St. David's and Dunblane)

I don't really hate the English...I just get annoyed at them...such as, for example, they nicked our stone...when the Scots win at sport and the English don't, the presenters etc say "it's a British win" and totally forget to acknowledge the fact that we're SCottish...if the English win and we've gone out, it's "And it's anotehr gold for the English Team"

bah...get your own stinking trophy whatever's!

being Scottish however, we're almost required to dislike the English and not mind the French for exam whereas te English are meant to loath the French.

As for Americans...smiley - winkeye

It's true on the sport front - I've noticed at work that for some reason the likes of David Coulthard and David Millar are British when they win and Scottish when they don't...

Although personally I reckon the bit of 'Trainspotting' where they go out to the Great Outdoors sorts out the Scots-English relationship quite nicely smiley - smiley

hey I have nothing against the English...I just don't like the way Scots are treated in the UK when we do well...I mean come on, we're a completely different country, yes we're part of the UK but when we do something good independantly why should we have to share the glory when we're not allowed to share it with the English?

It's a pet peeve

Back to business...

The FRENCH - don't mention the garlic crunchers to me. Just come back from 3 days at EuroDisney - ruined by the pompous and pig-ignorant peasants of Paris who treat the roads and pavements as their own personal property.

Absolutely excellent entry, Em! I have just one typo to point out and a couple of questions.

There's a word missing in the last sentence of the opening section. I think it should read: 'The population of Blairgowrie in 1991 *was* approximately 8,000'.

In the 'Industry' section, you say '...however in the 70s or 80s the tracks were closed.' Is this the 1870s/80s or the 1970s/80s?

Finally, in the 'Green Lady...' section, what do the words 'wabster' and 'vitual' mean? Explanatory footnotes would be handy there.

Once again, though, great work! smiley - ok

Blair's a great place - really pretty and heaps of places to stay.

But should you also mention the best ethnic clobber shop in Perthshire is there? As I drive through Blair every couple of weeks, I invariably stop off to check out the latest stock at Diva (opposite Woollies). smiley - cool clothes.

Nice to know there are plenty of Hootites around here.

Right Typo corrected...

1970's or 80's, which I've also changed

'wabster' means *goes to look it up in scots dictionary as it was a quote from a story...not a flipping clue...its not in the dictionary and it's a quote so I don't know what it means...I@ll go investigate howeversmiley - smiley

'vitual' is possibly the wrong spelling...or maybe I'm making words up in my head...I guess ritual would work as well...actually it probably was meant to be ritual and I cocked up the typingsmiley - erm

mmmm, I dunno if Diva should get a mention, (though I've known the woman who own's it since I moved here and the shop's been in three different locations other than the Allen Street...I dunno...great shop thoughsmiley - ok

No, mentioning Diva is probably advertising. Does Hootoo have the same attitude to advertising as the BBC?

I think there's nothing wrong with mentioning the names of good shops in a review-y kind of way, particularly for interesting small independent shops... it's blatant plugs they have trouble with, particularly for large corporations.
