A very vivid word picture!
I could almost see the documentary footage!
The ute and four by situation sounds like where I live. East Texas.
I wonder why no one understands that a muffler would be a nice thing to have on a vehicle at 2 in the morning.
Some vehicles used to have switchable cut-outs on them so you could engage the muffler when you thought you might get ticketted for your straight-pipe noise!
