Games like chess, Othello, Risk, etc. are a great way to spend time on a computer. When you are alone. The skill level of your opponent can be set to match your mood, and you can take as long as you want to either respond or get back to the game.
Of course, in my busy social schedule I am beseiged by offers of others to play on real, 3D boards instead of pixilated ones, so I am only going by what I have heard...
