A Conversation for Talking Point: Crazy Olympics
2010

As a citizen of half the 2010 winning bid, I would like to establish some uniquely Vancouver events.
*The 1000 metre rain dash* Since we are known for our rain, a run down the length of Granville street in a downpour ending in a gauntlet through the drug dealers and panhandlers downtown would be entertaining. Extra points for not catching a cold.
*The snowshovel luge* Sittiing on the pan of a snow shovel and holding on to the handle to steer would be much more exciting down a luge track then it would on Burnaby Mountain. For one thing, the finish wouldn't involve hitting a large Douglas fir tree trunk, unless you think that would add something....
*Crosscountry small boot race* A race through an Alpine course in boots with small soles would be very challenging, I have done it and would strongly suggest this event not include guns like the biathalon. Contestants would be tempted to shoot themselves after the fourth or fifth time they were buried to the waist in snow.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
