A Conversation for Piet Hein, the Danish Renaissance Man

thanks tons (I think Mr Revenge would be too formal smiley - laugh)

I think I've covered all the points everyone has made so far, but I've tinkered with it so much that some of the early commenters might not recognise it (or approve of the changes)

Is everyone happy?smiley - biggrin (focussing on these linked entries anyway)

As first commenter, I like it better now. Looks great, though the title is a bit misleading to those who haven't heard of him (IE Me) I thought it was a place when it popped up on my conversation list smiley - biggrin

Perhaps 'Piet Hein - Poet Mathematician and Scientist' though that is a bit clunky

I vote for "Piet Hein - not a play by Henrik Ibsen"

Hmmm. I did consider expanding the title once people were clicking on it wondering what it was about. I like Gnomon's suggestion smiley - laugh

How about 'Piet Hein, Danish Polymath' or 'Piet Hein, the Danish Renaissance Man'?

I prefer the 'Renaissance Man' title. Most people don't know what a polymath is and think it is a type of mathematician. (Or possibly a very clever parrot).

OK, Hein was a mathematician, but he was much more.

Hi - a very nice entry!

I just wondered: I remember hearing about Piet Hein writing a very long gruk/poem for an important UN-occation. I think it was about international politics and relations and it was a good deal too clever for the occation. They did not use it, but I remember hearing it read. Does anybody know what the occation was and/or how I could find the text?

I've only just read this so I can't compare it to any earlier versions, but I think it looks great and is very informative smiley - ok

Cissdur, I know nothing about any long poems Piet wrote - I haven't found anything longer than about a dozen lines. It could be linked to the Nobel speech he allegedly made in 1983 - I can't find out any information about that either (which is why I say allegedly, and haven't mentioned it in the entry)

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!

Two on one day. Coo. smiley - biggrin

smiley - erm now what is going to happen to the other two? I guess if they're good enough they could always get picked later and added in the Piet Hein Links when they get published.

The Entry Awaiting Approval A1053956 has had all the links to unedited entries stripped out smiley - yikes (well, ok, I knew this would happen).

If (when smiley - winkeye) they get picked and edited, will the edited Piet Hein entry be updated automatically to resemble this PR version? I'm just concerned because the Martin Gardner reference is now a little uninformative, and I hope it can revert to being useful.

Incidentally I have been informed from the official PietHein site that there is no copyright problem in quoting the grook (I could even have quoted a couple more)

You should remind the sub-ed that those unedited entries are in fact waiting approval, and if they don't make it in time for this entry's inclusion in the Guide you can probably have them re-inserted just by posting to editorial feedback when the others are picked and edited. smiley - ok

I haven't been contacted by a sub-ed. It states the editors are the h2g2 editors what is the best way of contacting them? I though writing to the PR thread would do it, as that is how my only other sub-ed said she normally did it.

The other recommended entry (not yet 'awaiting approval') is the Superellipse PR version: A1029845. The other two entries haven't even been recommended yet.

Pimms (I'm sure it will all work out in the end)
