This is the first of a potential series, though I'm not sure when or how the rest will get written. For now it's just this. What do you think?

I think it's great, a wonderful start! If it's a part of a series have you considered making it a University Project though?

I'd rather not commit to this being a University project - I've already got one going (the Underground thing), and this series might only reach four entries.

Excellent Alex.
Couple of things - "bad king John" This myth is perpetuated by tales like Robin Hood, th ebad King was Richard, who bankrupted the country fighting pointless crusades, and getting himself captured. John was constantly oblidged to raise taxes to pay for Richard's excesses. He was a competant ruler, and an excellent administrator - he was appaling at PR.
You say that Edward and Mary maintained the fleet, yet Elizabeth took over a much reduced navy - presumably this was because of the battle of Calais, but its not clear from reading the section.
I'll be looking forward to the next one - in time for Trafalgar day ?

I've changed the bit about John and explained about the change in size of the navy.
Trafalgar Day - October 21st is it? I think I can manage that...

I've added a load of links to the entry, but I'm going to be off home now for the holidays so I probably won't be able to make any changes until around the last week of April.

Great entry Alex, I look forward to the next one, what are you plans for the four?
My suggestion would be to break it down like this; the next one could be the golden age of sail, (1660 to about 1861 when HMS warrior was built). Then the age of the Battleship (from Warrior in 1861 to 1945 as the carriers of the second world war made the battleship obsolete). Then to finish up a section on the modern nuclear age navy and the plans for the new carrier fleet?
It does sound good if you manage to write all of them they'll make an interesting series, keep up the good work!

I'm planning on breaking them up into four or five parts, but still no university project, with the next one leading up to the start of the Pax Britannica, followed by one leading up to the start of the great war.

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've therefore moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.
If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.
Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
