An answerin 'Answers to Correspondents' in the Daily Mail says that 'The Bildungsroman is the name given to novels that concentrate on the development or education ofaa central character from childhood through to adulthood. German in oigin, 'Bildung' means 'education'. A 'Roman' is a novel.
I wonderif this pertains also to the development of a character through a series of novels, such as Wiulbur Smith's books about the Courtney family
