Jonathan Edwards' 1995 world-record triple jump of 18 m 29 cm has to be one of the greatest sporting achievments of all time. At the beginning of his career he also stood up by refusing to compete on Sundays as it conflicted with his Christian beliefs, but he was in the end persuaded to. He has remained the World's best triple-jumper for the past ten years and has also succeeded in graduating with a physics degree from Durham University.
