A Conversation for Tips on How to Make Commuting Bearable
I took an A-level

in the early 90s I found myself on a 40 minute each way tram ride between Krefeld and Düsseldorf to get to work and back. I started reading newspapers and magazines, then I started going through the classics. At some stage I decided to put this reading time to good use and took English Literature A-level. Bearing in mind that at school (which I left in 1982) I didn't do a stroke of work (and have the bad a-level results to prove it) I amazed everyone - not least myself - and got a B.
To learn the quotes I recorded them and listened to the tape of them on my walkman.
