These sorts of light hearted immatuer games can lighten up even the worst of commutes. This makes an example of people and gives you pleasure to see them squirm, it's oddly satifying

1)Say Strange Things around Strangers, works best with an accomplice, or while on a cell phone, sample (Said just as a stranger gets into earshot) "Shovel or no shovel, beating a pigeon is wrong!"
2)subtle insults, works best with an accomplice, sample (said near a man in blue jeans, a teal t-shirt and white shoes coming out of a red car)
You: "You know what I hate? Men"
Accomplice: "I know, especially men with blue jeans"
You: "And teal T-Shirts"
Accomplice: "And white shoes!! I hate that"
You: "But the thing I hate most is..."
In Unison: "Red cars!!"
3)Stare at someone. I like to be on the curb, staring at someone with their windows rolled down and yell at them. If you aren't brave enough, then just stare at someone with a mean face. This doesn't work if you're an attractive female staring at a man, because then the target will try to talk to you. You should stare at someone of the same gender with disdain in your eyes
4) Talk to accomplice about the target with target right next to you. SAMPLE "Can you believe this man, standing so close to us that he can hear us? His breath stinks!"
5) Wear a mask. Wear a mask of a celebrity and talk like them, for example, wear a mask of a Hobbit and ask for a newspaper in a hobbit's voice. They will squirm

Another good one is to try to start a sing-song.As long as you don't get arrested, this can be good fun."All together now: Down at the old Bull and Bush..". Not recommended is "Firestarter" by Prodigy.

The Quartermaster

While in Washington DC recently, one of my friends and myself spoke solely French for about an hour, most of that time spent on the Metro in DC. Now, the problem was, there were four of us riding together, the French-speakers and my two other friends, who speak Spanish. This made for some interesting amusement as my friend and I attempted to impart information to my non-Francophone friends in French.

The moral? Speak French on the Metro.

Tips for playing games on your fellow commuters:

1. If you have a passenger, encourage them to hurl themselves forwards into the windshield whenever you come to a stop. If people in other cars are not staring at you, you're not trying hard enough. Sell the drama.

2. Sing, gustily and loudly, preferably with your windows down. Really get into it. Bonus points for visible spittle ejection.

3. Scream greetings at pedestrians and/or animals. Cows really enjoy when you yell "Moo" at them.

4. Just say no to expensive exhaust system repairs. Nothing livens up a morning commute like a Geo Metro that sounds like a Harley.

I like German for my yelling needs because it already sounds angry. It's also a good idea to show up in costume, for instance a fairy or someone from a shakespeare play

It's too late, but don't forget the passive insult. Talking on the cell phone and saying "Hold on, this guy standing next to me is staring at me all wrong"
