Ironically, the article you referenced disagrees with the origins of the word ketchup:
"The word ketchup is thought to be derived from the Chinese ke-tsiap, a pickled fish sauce that had a savoury taste, flavoured by brine spices and fish. It travelled from China to Malaysia where it became kechap, then to Indonesia where it was ketjap."

Thanks for pointing that out! Will rework that to include the Chinese derivation. Forget sometimes that when we speaking broken Malay here not all the words are actually Malay... . Alot of them are Hokkien and Cantonese...
