Thanks for a great Guide Entry and congratulations on hitting the Front Page.
Mithraism has a certain appeal because it links directly to real events like solstices and equinoxes without force fitting as in Christianity or Islam.
Sadly 'He who will not eat of my body and drink of my blood, so that he will be made one with me and I with him, the same shall not know salvation.' is too close to the "one true God" concept for me which has plagued organised religions for two centuries and is getting worse. I cannot accept a "one size fits all" religion any more than I can accept a George W. Bush "You are with us or against us" viewpoint. For me religion is a personal, private journey. I may not agree but I will respect the views of others.

"the "one true God" concept for me which has plagued organised religions for two centuries"
quite, except that I'd say longer. what about "I am a jealous god"?

Glad I'm not the only insomniac on h2g2.
I agree - I meant to say two millenia.
Thanks for an interesting quote. I thought jealousy was a deadly sin but that's envy which is not quite the same. Bit late for semantics and philosophy - and my contact lenses are getting itchy so
Goodnight and Good Luck.
