Informative and well written article.....
On a practical note, if you are travel this route you must make certain preparations or the suffering will be profound.
The route takes about 5 hours to drive, at a reasonable speed. As of 6 years ago, enforcement of the speed limit was limited to places proximal to urban areas.
But the true problem is that for fully one half of the route, only Country music stations are obtainable on the FM dial. Bring cassettes, CD's or even 8 track tapes - but prepare !
