Buster Brown and the Yellow Kid
Richard Felton Outcault (1863-1928) was a pioneer cartoonist. His sought-after and fought-over cartoon The Yellow Kid gave the name to 'yellow journalism', although he was innocent. After the excitement over the Kid (and the Spanish American War) was over, he invented Buster Brown, a terrible kid, and his friend Mary Jane. They, in turn, gave their names to types of children's shoe, which in turn generated a tidy income for Mr Outcault in endorsements and merch.
In this cartoon, Buster has a dream about the Yellow Kid. Thanks to the Library of Congress for preserving it for us.
