Mister President, Nebraska Is Missing!
Episode 20
Spot fetched the professor, and then accompanied Sprilznick to Nostradmus' universe, where it was rumored that duck was everyone's favorite meat. Weasel lost no time connecting to a reverse telephone directory. He found the number, and the directory gave the owner's name: Elwood "Woody" Woodhed, the President's oldest son.
"Woody!" exclaimed Professor Neinstein. "I visited him on the way back from that dinner party you gave a while back. Let's see, that was early September."
"Think hard, Professor," Weasel urged. "Did you drop any hints about our work with universe-hopping while you were there?"
"Of course not!" the Professor said indignantly. "It's foolish to talk about computer secrets around him, as he is a first-rate hacker. I'd have been crazy to let him have any of our secrets."
Weasel nodded, thinking about the many times when the professor had acted crazy. It was best to humor him. "That leaves another possibility. Excuse me for a minute." She went to the solarium to consult with the android, who huddled with the florgars. Five minutes later she reported back to the professor. "The android says that Emily is our culprit. She followed you and the android to my computer, remembered the coordinates for your destination, and then went there herself later on. Worse, she got herself turned into a computer when she got to Woody's room."
"A computer!" Professor Neinstein exclaimed, shaking with alarm. "I hope it wasn't one of our state of the art computers."
"There's no way to know for sure," Weasel said, "but look at the outcome. Woody knows now how to shift the whole state of Nebraska between dimensions as easily as counting to five."
The Professor relaxed when he heard this. "That's not really very advanced. "Trading equal-sized objects, even big ones, does not take much sophistication, though I have to commend him for his smooth execution. Do we know for sure that the boy is guilty of this? He could still be innocent, you know."
"What we need is a good spy," said Weasel, heading to the solarium for another chat with Emily through the android. Five minutes later she was back. "Okay, it's all set. Emily won't give us any more help. I think she's sulking, but Sylvie is willing to be beamed to Woody's room as our spy. She's also willing to deliver messages to President Woodhed."
