The neighbour lady says she thought the birdcage was so pretty, she'd just keep it. None of the local birds live in cages, so she decided her stuffed friend could stand in for a tenant.

Historical note: A lot of our older residents own vacant birdcages. In the early days of home refrigerators, birds were kept on top of them as an equivalent to 'coal mine canaries'. If the birdie was in distress, there were dangerous gases in the kitchen. Grab the cage and get out.
