Beware the Bear

I cannot find any information about this bear statue, which stands near the turnoff to a charming rural community nestled in the western Pennsylvania woods. We noticed it because we were looking for the turnoff. A picnic invitation was at stake. (We got there. The burgers were yummy and the company excellent.)
Mrs Hoggett's opinion is that somebody put the bear statue up so that they could say 'Look for the bear' when giving directions. That's as good an explanation as any. After all, it is possible to see the real thing on these back roads – or even, upon occasion, in the Hoggetts' front yard, or on Main Street when the wind is right and the pizza inviting. We're not exactly bear-poor around here.
Future plans for summer exploration include a visit to historic Sligo to see the giant cow sculpture. Stay tuned.
