Something like that also happened 13-05-2000 in The Dutch community of Enschede, resulting in 29 dead, 950 wounded, 200 houses completely destroyed and 2000 other buildings heavily damaged.
The final blast consisted of 177 tons of fireworks going off at once.

Wow, that is shocking 
I can hardly imagine 177 tons of fireworks going off at once - no wonder it was devastating to the area and the people...
I trust lessons were learned from that...

Probably not enough lessons learned internationally, given that the accident in the original entry happened four years later.
There is video footage of the explosions (I saw it on live news coverage back then). It terrifies me how quickly things really got out of hand, from a column of smoke to full armageddon.
