The Green Man: Part 19
Well, between us, we rescued the situation and, although He doesn't look quite the way He did, the picture doesn't show much in the way of the repair work (poor photographer, eh?)
Apart from the repairs, some work got done around His chin, a couple of initial cuts onto His cheeks and some preparation along the top border.
Those splits high right, above where his right ear isn't, are going to be awkward. They were filled in, in the early days, with superglue, to stabilise the drying-out splits so that, when cutting-in the leaf veins they will be a different, rather harder and brittle, consistency to the surrounding wood. Not that the wood is of a consistent consistency anyway - along the grain, across the grain, slanting, uphill, downhill, changes of slope and growth rings -
oh, the joys of carving...
