I never really got into railways as a child, but I do love to look at model railways as an adult. (although I am really more interested in the insides of them these days)

Glad you enjoyed reading this!
I didn't get to play with model railways at home as a child, but my dad was a member of a model railway club so about once a week I could take a train to play there (we didn't have a layout at home). I still don't have my own layout, but my dad and father-in-law do, and I enjoy visiting exhibitions, been to 2 so far this year.
It might be a while before I have my very own model railway - we spent Christmas at the inlaws and my father-in-law was given a new Flying Scotsman for Christmas, and the very same day my daughter broke the leading wheel bogie.

A Flying Scotsman is fun, but what I'd want is a Terrier tank engine, either in Isle of Wight Central Railway colours, or perhaps Southern Green. They don't seem to sell them, so might have to wait until the kids are old enough not to break things...
