Now I am not sure in your recipe, what the reason for microwaving the cheese seperately is? But anyway, I will try it ...
As the title above suggests, I have an alternative.
This may even be easier ...
Make a Peanut Butter and Cheese sandwich, with butter or margarine spread on the bread first. Cut it in half, diagonally, to make two triangles. Seperate the two halves, on a microwave safe plate, by about half an inch. Microwave on full power for about thirty seconds. Remove from the microwave, and enjoy. The cheese should be melted, but the bread should not be to soggy. Experiment with the times, in your microwave oven ...

You can try putting both toast and cheese in the microwave. Soon you will find it is awful.
First the cheese doesn't become crunchy. Second, it doesn't stay on the bread (although I have to admit my quantities aren't representative), and third the bread will get soft and wet from both fat and condensed water.
