Fascinating! Any idea why, when the rest of Europe seemed to generally be using a decimal system, the British had the rather bizarre pounds, shillings, and pence relationship?

Hm, a very interesting question, seems related to the American system of measurement, which is of course a relic of the British one. Remember the Mars mission.
