The representation of perpetual value is exactly why many Europeans felt very cautious when bank notes were introduced in the 17th century. This of course since paper had no real value, whereas a coin could always be converted to its primary value : the metal it was made of. It took a while for people to get used to this new concept of money.

Hello, just an innocent bystander, thank you for having read my entry and for the info about the bank notes. I think we can observe the same with plastic cash, many people from the older generation are cautious as well.
