Fit energy saving lightbulbs. They are not as expensive as they were 10 years ago, but they can save £10 a year per bulb.
Put silver foil behind radiators and shut the curtains when it gets dark, this will make sure that the heat comes back into the room rather than out of the window.
Never boil the kettle full unless you are going to use it all - it's cheaper to boil only what you need.
Use the energy saving button on your washing machine if it has one, and only use the machine to heat the water if you have no choice. It's much cheaper to use the gas boiler to heat the water so that it goes in warm.
If you have appliances that have clocks on, consider turning them off at the plug anyway - you only need one clock per room - my TV/stereo/video all have clocks on within a foot of each other - this is wasteful.
I'll come back later if I remember some more, but all these things will save on bills, which means more cash for !

Go to http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/energy/hees/ and find out if you can get a warm front grant to insulate your home, we got out loft insulation and draft proofing done...it took a couple of months for them to get round to it but I can't fault them, our house is now toasty (what with the new boiler, foilbacked rads, cavity wall, loft insulation and double glazed windows).
The paperwork is really easy to sort out too.
Apparantly there are also grants for insulating houses over a certain age but I can't find a link for them.
