A Conversation for Sponges

I went on holiday to Kalymnos a few years back. Sponges are sold just about everywhere, maybe not in funeral parlours of souvlaki stalls, but are extremely cheap there and available in a huge variety of different sizes and qualities. Well worth buying, mine has lasted me years and beats that supermarket-sold foam tat sold in the UK!

From one of the listed sites (Zoolab - methinks):
"Because of commercial collection (for bath sponges), sponges have practically disappeared from the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Wild populations were also wiped out by a sponge disease. There are efforts to establish sponge aquaculture, both to harvest and to help re-seed wild populations."
Maybe it's working already.
