And for those of us who still read each new Anita Blake novel in one sitting (because they are exciting and suspensfull), but are getting a bit fed up with her (because she's getting stranger and stranger). There is half-human, mixed breed elven princess of the unseilighe sidhe (I'd look up the spelling but I don't have the time) Merry Gentry. Potential heir to the Queen of Air and Darkness Merry has some of the same characteristics as Anita (growing powers, working as a PI) while leaving out some of the more annoying ones, like Anita's sexual hangups. Merry has none, and it's not really good unless you melt the bedframe and heal your partner from all ills.

The first two books of those series are called A Kiss of Shadows and Shades of Twilight, if I remember correctly. I´ve read the first one and liked it, but haven´t been able to get my hands on the second one yet. Nice to know us scandinavians live up to our reputations

ps. there was a discussion about this, before this was published but the thread didn´t make it to here...

I actually state on my userspace that I mostly hootoo while at work, which is true As I rarely bring my laptop home, I can´t be bothered to log in elsewhere as well. I am a firm believer in the nice little button that says: remember me on this computer...
We´re all just very froody people...

'Froody' and 'hoopy' are words used by DNA in the novels - Hitchikers' Guide to the Galaxy - used to convey coolness or summat..
I had my copy on preorder from Amazon and it arrived right after my exam, which was nice. It was a nice read. I find it funny how many of her books happen in an evening or so - Anita lives a lot in a short time...
Have you read both the Merry Gentry books yet?
cheers ismarah, who is wellllll...

Hullo and welcome to an old thread...
I've just received my copy of 'Mistral's kiss' and read the new-ish Anita earlier this year.
Unfortunately I am of a consensus about them both - they're sh!t!
The sex has completely taken over and there's not a storyline or a plot in sight, which I find annoying. I don't mind reading erotica at all, but Anita especially is getting silly with it. The whole thing about the ardeur, when she started off as a virtuous, almost virginal character is such a role-reversal it almost makes the whole thing unreadable for my liking.
For good story, I'd recommend Kim Harrison and Jim Butcher, for Wicca & crime, Patricia Briggs and MR Sellars and for erotica / vampirism, JR Ward and Charlaine Harris. Harris is more more story / more tame whereas JR Ward is more romance / erotica and the vampire bits kind of get in the way..
Anyway, have you read anything you'd like to recommend?

I hated the latest Anita, Danse Macarbe ..really really shiters thought he wee one inbetween 'micah' was the best shes done in a long time!

Yeah, 'Micah' had a bit of story in it, which has been sorely lacking from the others lately. And please, the main plot in 'Danse Macabre' was that she might or might not be pregnant and the mother of all darkness was awakening.
I actually liked the Merry series a lot, until this last one. Usually they've been really dense, big books until now, where there's no plot to string the sex together. Yawn.
Oh, and I forgot to mention Jaqueline Carey - the 'Kushiel' series is very good. Lots of plot, some sex and it's all good.
Wish LKH hadn't lost the plot so completely - I know she's been going through some personal stuff, like the divorce and then getting remarried, but enough's enough. Pity the completist in me, who thinks 'must finish the series' to all things. Bleh.

Oh, actually, having nosed around your convos, realising you're pagan / wiccan? (which?) you might find MR Sellars interesting. He's a practising witch in the US and uses his experiences in his writing, to a certain extent.
