...but are you sure this is a Victorian recipe? The direction to whizz it in a liquidiser sounds awfully modern to me
What would they have done at the time? You said that you could just pour it through a seive to remove the lumps, but back then they may have passed it through something seive-like using the back of a spoon to mash the lumps through the mesh, effectively doing the same job as the liquidiser.

Hehe, if someone was looking for true Victorian authenticity, they wouldn't search for recipes on the internet, would they . Apart from the bit about the liquidiser, I'm pretty sure it's genuine Victorian stuff
