A Conversation for Pub Sign Cricket

Having just had a look at the referenced site, I am actually glad that the Duckworth-Lewis rule is not incorporated into this game - I almost had a stroke trying to figure out how to handle that in a car with two kids smiley - winkeye

I will keep this game in mind to the time where the family makes it to the UK for holiday driving around. Unfortunately, I think that Danish roads would be very favourable for the 'out' team... our pub naming traditions are just too different (and much less imaginative - try [name of local town] + Pub or Inn and you'd have a fair guess of the facility's name).

I think Texas roads would also be very low scoring. In my neighborhood, for example, alcohol sale is illegal ...

Before I visited London several years ago, I would have wondered about how long it would take to score. Now I think a trip of a mile or so would result in a century and the innings would be over. smiley - ale

After my trip, I tried to learn the rules ... uhh, Laws of cricket. I got a lot of help here, but the rules at the website for Pub Sign cricket seem like a great help. One of my questions about real cricket concerned the five run rule, when the ball strikes a helmet or item of clothing. Maybe a pub with a clothing item might score five? I assume there are some, maybe the "Royal Garter"? And I guess you'd get the regal bonus?

A very good entry, lots of fun. smiley - ok

Might I suggest Horse! as an alternative if pub cricket won't work.

The first person to see (and shout) Horse! wins the first round and has to specify the next target (one of which must be in sight). The first person to see (and shout) this target wins the next round and specifies the next target. And so it goes on until someone makes a silly call like StoneHenge!.

Horses are wild and can be called at any time. In our family, a VW bus is also wild (Splitty and Bay only).

The game is fairly quiet until you pass more than one horse in a field. Whoever calls attention to the field by shouting Horse! will lose out because somebody else will then see the second horse and shout. And the third etc. It's interesting to watch how children of different ages develop a strategy for this situation.

A nice link on the D-L rule, Ed. I'm convinced these sites make it deliberately complicated though.
