A Conversation for Making a Tepee Fire
Curious, Why 50 feet from water?

Thanks for the instructional piece, and congratulations on your succesfully starting your fire with flint and steel!
I wonder what the reasoning is for building your fire 50 feet from water. It seems to me that you would want water for cooking, washing, and putting out the fire. What would be wrong with 25 feet, or 15 feet?
Thanks again.
FYI: As for carrying coals during a trek, I covered building a fire-stick in my series of entries 'Wilderness Survival on Earth', currently in Peer Review.
