A Conversation for Handy Japanese Phrases

I think a couple of the pronounciation examples are potentially misleading. I realise it is pretty much impossible to give an accurate representation using English but...

"a as the 'a' in 'father' "

Perhaps the author is from the North of England smiley - biggrin. I would say that (for a British English speaker) "a as in 'pat'" would be more accurate.

"o as the 'o' in 'horse' "

Surely, only if you pronounce 'horse' as 'hoss'... I would suggest 'pot'. Although I saw 'pot' used as the example for 'a' in an American book once, which threw me completely for a while.
