A Conversation for Motorcycle Touring in the South Island of New Zealand
Oh darn, you've jump-started my wanderlust.

Curse you Red Baron! You've made me lust for wandering.
The topographical variety and natural spleandor of NZ has always seemed inviting to someone with a short attention span but it really is half way round the world from here. The smoking ban on planes and in airports makes it impossible for me to fly anywhere that would require longer than four hours of abstinence which these days wouldn't get me thru the searches at the airport without a major freak-out. I would drive but of course the Trans Pacific bridge is not yet complete.
So, I was just about to resign myself to growing old peacefully in Canada, especially now that travel to the US is more trouble, bother and humiliation than it is worth even by road. And most of central and south america is on the verge of revolution (or at least has blood in its eye for english speaking white men with the means to ride).

Hi ~j~
Glad to see I've stirred you
Ever considered sailing across (or around the 'edge' of) the Pacific?
If you need more arm-twisting, let me know...

If that's an offer, you've got a crew!
But you'll have to pick me up in Vancouver, that's as far as I can get by road without submitting to cavity searches at the US border and I simply cannot and will not pay that price even if the reward is the dream-come-true of a South Pacific sailor's lifestyle.
I suppose I could rent a canoe on the west coast and start paddling and maybe meet you half way.

Some good riding to be had in Canada too, we had our hunnymoon riding around the Rookies on a Sprint ST.
My husband, having read Ewan McGregor's 'The Long Way Round' is hunkering to do soemthing further afield and we've been impressed with NZ from LOTR.
Key: Complain about this post
