well it's certainly true that a coat of very slow drying nail polish will make you more careful of your little tootsies for a good hour or so.....otherwise you end up with lots of streaks on the furnishings where you have rubbed them against things

I think it makes you overall more cautious, looking down because you expect them to be nail coloured and there they are, bright red, or purple or green. So much better than bleeding...

If you paint the toenails on your left foot red and those on the right foot green you will remember more easily which way you are heading and any persons approaching may find it easier to anticipate your intended direction of travel.
Caution: This tactic may not work if you are wearing shoes, boots, socks and/or opaque stockings.
