A Conversation for Super Creamy Butter Toffee

Toffee trays?

What are toffee trays?

Will any baking pan do the job?

If I use a regular baking pan, should I line it first (with waxed paper, maybe?) so it's easier to get the cooled toffee out of it?

Lord Scott just loves toffee - the hard kind - I think he'd love some toffee bars dipped in our local Wilbur's chocolate....

Toffee trays are just like baking trays, but they're probably not made to to be used in an oven. If you're ever in Britain, try to find a Thorntons shop - they still (or at least, used to last time I was there) still sell trays of toffee. Any baking tray will do as long it's roughly the dimensions mentioned in the entry.

You shouldn't need to line the tray (especially if it's non-stick) but it wouldn't hurt, although I'd be careful about getting any folds of waxed paper stuck in the toffee. Don't line it with cling film smiley - winkeye If you cook the toffee high enough that it cools down to be a very hard toffee, it'll be easier to get out of the tray. But to be honest, half the fun of tray toffee is smashing it with a toffee hammer while it's still in the tray smiley - biggrin

smiley - ok

Oh, and any light vegetable oil is good for greasing the trays smiley - smiley

Me? Go to Britain? Perhaps Little Britian Township, which in the next county... Think they'd have a Thornton's? smiley - winkeye

Ok.... if I smash the toffee with a hammer (it's not like I even know what a toffee hammer is, understand) how do I keep from denting my baking pans? smiley - weird Or are dented pans a given?

Oh, ok. If you can grease the trays, then it should slide out easily enough...smiley - erm I hope...

You bash the toffee, not the tray. If you like the toffee and plan on making it a lot though, you might want to buy trays just for it smiley - smiley
