"White and blue LEDs are now available cheap.
There are roughly three kinds of LEDs:
--Signalling lights with a forward current of approximately 10 mA
--Illuminating LEDs (car break lights) in the range of 50 mA upto 150 mA using so called 'snap LED' technology. These LEDs are visible from a conciderable distance.
--Illumination 'Luxeon LEDs' very high power 500 mA upto 2000 mA used to illuminate an area such as buildings or laptop computer screens. "
