Does anybody know whether any of the Hinge and Brackett radio programs are available on audio cassette? If they are, where can I get them?

I don't know if there are any tapes of Hinge & Bracket available, but I did buy a copy of the BBC Radio Collection tape of Travels With My Aunt by Graham Greene last Saturday. Aunt Augusta is played by Dame Hilda Bracket and Henry Pulling is played by Charles Kay. It is a comedy-drama, so it is not laughs all the way through, but it is very, very good & I can recommend it.

I bought mine from a branch of Heffers bookshop.

Take it youve tried the BBC shop?Im nearly sure I saw some in waterstones -or possibly wh smiths.

As far as the web is concerned, there are only a few sites (AFAIK) that equate to 'High Street' shops - Amazon (If Waterstone's need to order a book for you, they get it from Amazon. In fact, the Waterstone's web site now takes you to Amazon), W H Smith and HMV. I've searched all of these, and the BBC shop, without much success. HMV do list one CD of Hinge and Brackett songs, but no tapes of their radio shows. There's nothing at all in the BBC shop. This gives me the feeling that such tapes don't exist. If they do, they're like hen's teeth and should be bought on sight.

I have searched every place you can imagine trying to get hold of Hinge and Brackett material. I have written to their agents and the BBC. So no joy.
I have however, recorded from the radio, some nearly 20 years old, the Random Jottings of Hinge and Brackett. I have about twenty tapes or so. The quality isn't brilliant on all of them as you can imagine but they are certainly good enough to listen to.
I recorded them from about 1983 onwards.
I am hoping to convert them onto a CD or something more durable than dodgy tapes from the early 80s.
I'm afraid that the tapes are too precious to loan out, but if I do make copies I will happily lend the CDs to anyone who is interested.
I also have two of their live shows on CD, tape and vinyl. They are quite similar, but the latest one is very good.
Get in touch if you are interested and I will do what I can. In light of the lack of these items for sale I think copying is the only way forward.
If anyone has taped copies of their old shows I will happily bite their hands off to get copies as I lost many copies to a dodgy tape player!

Toontastic - If at any time you do become able to transfer some of your carefully preserved tapes onto CD, i for one would be interested in attaining copies from you. I totally agree that it is very frustrating presently that so little material is available and have searched all over. Unfortunately, i have nothing to swap but will keep on looking!! Meanwhile, keep those tapes safe and get in touch please if able to assist!!

I have yet to transfer the tapes to CD - caused by laziness and technical glitches galrore, but will be doing so soon. As soon as I have them, I will offer copies up to anyone who wants them. As ever if anyone else has H+B stuff on CD or whatever, then I am well up for borrowing/copying or whatever.
They are on their way!!!!

Hi any chance of having these available on tape , I seem to be very unlucky with CDs .

Hi, I have just joined after looking for info on Hinge and Bracket and realising how often I listen to the 4 tapes I have. Only just discovered that The Dame passed away but then I am in Brisbane! so it's not actually news here, they have only ever been twice .... Any chance of getting on your list for a tape or cd I would be very grateful.

I have just bought loads of Hinge and Bracket episodes on CD from a guy who runs a Yahoo group.

I suggest anyone interested in H+B should check out the site and see what episodes he has for sale. He has a comprehensive collection that would fill blanks in any collection! Also he has lots of general info on these two stars.
