A Conversation for The Top Ten Reasons to Remember Anchorage, Alaska
Taxes

My nephew lived in Anchorage some years ago, a chemical engineer working on the North Slope, two weeks on/two weeks off, I think. I used to brag that here in Texas we have no state income tax, he topped that by telling me there is a NEGATIVE state income tax in Alaska, oil revenue being distributed to the residents. Sounds even better than no sales tax (which we definitely have in Housto, Texas).

Yah, the PFD does come in handy, but it is slowly destroying the state budget. There's simply not enough revenue coming in anymore from the North Slope... Actually, they're thinking about instating a sales tax soon, but keeping the negative income tax sort of idea. Odd, I know.
