You forgot to mention those bloodthirsty buggers that are jokingly known as the Alaskan state bird. Hiking trips were not complete without those b******s circling like vultures round your ears and enough to make you insane!

I vaguely recall that in his 1985 book, "Coming Into the Country", John McPhee claimed the state "symbol" (or something) for Alaska should be the fifty gallon drum. Apparently Alaskans find a zillion uses for these. Here in Texas, they get made into barbecue pits. smiley - hotdog

Hmmm... I can't say as I've seen too many uses for them, but I do live in Anchorage, so everything's pretty well kept up. The only times I see them are as trash cans, or when Texans move up and convert them to bbq pits...

Any idea what your friend was talking about when he said we had a zillion uses for thoe things?
