It was September!
I started a new teaching job at the start of term in the first week of September 2000 but my house sale had been delayed and I was staying with a friend of a friend several miles away. All my resources and notes were still in my house 90 miles from my job and for the first week of term I could visit the house a couple of times a week. Then there was the blockade. I had to move into the school since I had no petrol to get to the lodgings and my poor had to be taken in by friends back at the old place until the fuel crisis was over. I moved in October. There was petrol for my car and for the removal van by then. In November it looked like there would be another blockade but there wasn't.
Here's a BBC story from the time - dated September. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_924000/924329.stm

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
