A Conversation for Etiquette for American Football Spectators

Excellent entry, DD. I do, however, have a few coments and a few possible additions.smiley - smiley

First off, a correction: The home of the Green Bay Packers is Lambeau Field, not Landau Field.

And a note to the editor: The Dawg Pound at Cleveland Browns is the designated area for the hard-core fans. The dogs referred to in that line about only dogs being allowed in the Dawg Pound refers to the fact that the most hard core fans paint themselves with face paint to look like dogs.

Right.. Addition to the entry, then:
When meeting a fan from the other team before the game, do NOT engage in physical violence with that person, as that is considered bad etiquette. Rather than doing that, offer him a beer, or two, as he will probably enjoy that more.
Since beer is sold at most games anyways, you will not need to prepare any home made concoction of alcohol before you leave home. If it's not sold inside the stadium itself, there will be a beer tent in the designated pre-game area.
It is also good etiquette during the game itself to not cheer if a player of the opposing team gets injured (and there will be at least a few players being injured during the game, or the guys on the field are doing something wrong) and it's appreciated by the fans of the injured player's team if you stand up and applaud the efforts of the playeer as he is being led, or carried, off the field. It is a sign of appreciation.

Also, if you're going to your first ever game of american football, and you don't know the rules, or doesn't understand a call that's made on the field, don't hesitate to ask anyone around you what's going on. They will tell you (biased towards their team, of course) what they saw and what the call means. If you're a veteran in the stands and someone asks you what is going on, please explain to them. It will cause them to enjoy the game more, and come back for more. And the more people in the stands, the better the atmosphere, and the sound level as the opposing team's offence is on the field.smiley - winkeye

Okay, I'm not going to keep on going now. I'll be available for a few questions if anyone's got any? No? Then I'll be off. Thank you for listening.smiley - smiley

Actually, the yesterday was great at Murrayfield, with lots of people, great weather and the prospects of seeing a repeat of World Bowl '96. UNfortunately, the Claymores sucked, so the festive atmosphere pretty much disappeared towards the end of the game, even if the Claymores were up by 3 points at one point and the defence kept us in the game (Frankfut had three missed FG attempts from Swedish kicker (ahem smiley - whistle) Ola Kimrin) but you could tell that they were running out of stem at the end. I'm waiting for the stats from the game, and I wouldn't be surprised if the time of posession for Frankfurt is close to 40-45 minutes of the game... *sigh*

BUt as I said, it was a good day to get a bit of a tan in the East Stand.smiley - smiley

BTW, pity I didn't notice the entry before it was edited, or I would've eagerly helped out with it back then. Unfortunately, I don't frequent the Peer review that much (read never) so I didn't see it until today, when I did a search for football to see if there is any entries about the Claymores...
Thinking of gettign an entry going about the Claymores, or one that deals with American football in the UK or something like that. Probably end up being about the Claymores, though.

Yeah do that and Link it to my Monarchs one. The Monarchs always seemed to suck after their first season thogh. I suppose we got the cream too early and never managed to acheive that ever again. No wonder the team sank like a stone. smiley - sadface

Hehe.. That, and the fact that they decided to move the team around from arena to arena, could have been contributing factors...

Okay, I've started the entry and I'm going to find some more info out before going any further, but if you feel like going to have a quick look it's located at A744284 right now. And yes, I know it sucks, and I don't have very much info yet, but I'll get it going...smiley - smiley

I know it's just a little bit off-topic... but as a football fan (I can call it just football since I live in the US smiley - winkeye) I'm interested in how the NFL Europe grows and changes as time goes by.

Does anyone know if the league is going to expand at any point? Maybe reestablish a team in London or else create new teams in other countries (France/Italy)?

As the writer of the article on the London Manarchs I hope the league will expand at some point. Could do with a team in London dispite what other Londoners say we use to have great crowds to pre-season NFL games before the World League was established and there is also a great reason to have a team in Italy another hot bed of football in Europe.

We shall have to wait and see.

Eagle1, I think that most NFL-E fans wants the league to expand. HOwever, the League itself says that it's not profitable enough to do so as the average attendance at most games (except Frankfurt and Rhein) are around 10.000-12.000. I would really like for England to get a team back (London monarchs would be good) as it would probably spawn some more interest in the UK. Especially since the only team at the moment in the UK are the Claymores, and they are based pretty far north for a lot of UK fans. And the old rivalry between Scotland and England is always a good one.smiley - smiley
The fans around the league have been talking about different possibilities that they feel would work when it comes to expansion teams for the NFL-E. For instance Madrid (as most Spanish fans don't like Barcelona) and Italy (which have a really good football league and their national team is one of the top-tier teams of Europe). Also France, Austria and even possibly somewhere in Scandinavia has been suggested by the fans, but as I said, the league doesn't seem too happy with trying to expand.smiley - sadface
