Just thought I'd mention... I've got two optics in my kitchen (1/6th and 1/5th), and by the end of the night both will have bottles of Glenfarclas 105 on them! I've had the 105 up there before, but this'll be the first time on both!

Can't say I've ever tasted "Glenfarclas 105" ,but it sounds strong - cask strength?

I once had an optic installed on my headboard, but this was when I was a student and such behaviour was acceptable

Yup - cask strength! 105 proof! And it tastes wonderful!

This has been noted on the shopping list for the next trip to the Whisky Shop at the top of Steep Hill in Lincoln, a real as opposed to virtual shop that's well worth a visit if you're in the area.

This years tips from our friend in the business are:
"Lagavulin 'Distillers Edition' 1982 (£40) or
Highland Park 25 year old (£99 - but worth it)"
..but any other tips would be welcome, as the shop will most likely stock 'em.

Personally, I don't think I've had much better than the 25yr old Ardbeg (about £60) but there's more drinks I haven't drunk than those that I have.

I once tasted a 26 year old Macallan straight from the cask. Unbelievably great taste!
I noticed this weekend, when I opened a bottle of Grants (which does not occur very often), that a puff of solid vanilla smell came from it. The stuff itself lacks of vanilla in taste, at least in the same extent as the aroma.

I never had the chance to taste the better whiskeys that are very old.
But like George Sainsbury, do agree that (at least the ones I have tried) the older ones do get a little slimy.

By the way, if all you drinkers out there want a good read on ALL aspects of Alchol, then read the "Notes on a Cellar Book" by the above author. If you are not acholics yet, you will be by the time you have read it, a MUST!

In my immediate vicinity I have access to both Museum of Wine and Spirits and Museum of Tobacco. When visiting them I always get this urge for either a drink or a smoke. And I don't smoke. Weird, that.

This weekend I desided to revive some memories from my first youth, so I drank the Swedish Kid's Grogg. That's Vodka and coke. Coo! Disgusting! That's what evil must taste like. I can't believe I used to down that smeer by the gallon...

I'm about two miles downwind of St. James' Gate and even when I don't visit it I get the urge for a Guinness. .

Incidentally, did you know that the clinic for alcoholics in Dublin is literally across the road from the Guinness brewery..as the guide on the tour bus said: "what chance do those poor souls have?". .
