I agree passenger train travel can be fun, based on a trip I took long ago when Amtrak was new. I vividly recall eating in the dining car - white tablecloths, freshly cooked vegetables - while the world went by just outside the window. Not just clouds as with air travel.
But ... I don't consider train travel in the Houston area a practical choice. Too few options, compared to, say, London with its vast system. And now this result of hurricanes:
