Downloaded a version of Elite (probably the disk version) for an emulator last night, but can't find the key to launch out of the space station!!
Reading Braben or Bell's homepage there is a copy of the Elite manual, but the keys don't quite match up.
It suggests F1 to launch, F2 to buy, F3 to sell.
My layout has F1 buying, F2 selling!
So where is the launch key?

I have found the promised land ... (but not the launch key)

F1 was definitely launch...
I guess you could try pressing every key on the keyboard until the stars appear...

Didn't the BBC have an F0 key?

You could try F12. Alternatively, does your emulator have a key mapper? The one I use does, you could map something to F0, which I think was the launch key... or there might not have been an F0, my memory is known to be less than perfect

Well unfort I've sort of been down those routes ...

the emulator maps F0 to F11. However these just seemed to freeze things up. Or was it impossible to launch until you'd bought some stuff. That ring any bells?

Not that I recall... you might need to set a destination for hyperspacing or something, but I don't remember anything being mandatory.
You could try downloading one of the PC conversions instead, like Elite Plus or Newkind. I've even got one for my Handspring Visor (a Palm platform), called Void.
