A Conversation for Foolproof Rice

Rice Cookers

If you're a fan of Asian-style sticky white rice, rice cookers are an absolute necessity! That, and cooking sticky rice is even more foolproof than the easy recipe already in this entry.

The trick to good sticky rice is finding that perfect balance of rice and water. I find that about 1.5-2 times as much water generally results in the best rice. Adjust to fit your personal preference, of course.

And another thing: don't add anything. No, I'm serious! Not a thing! Just rice and water. The exception to that rule is if you're making sushi, in which case you'll add vinegar (check the entry on sushi. I don't know where it is off-hand, but a search should turn it up in no time.) after the cooking.

Sticky white rice is the ultimate rice. All this fancy "brown rice" and "mushroom rice" and "pilaf" doesn't hold a candle to a nice hot bowl of sticky rice. For extra fun, teach yourself to use chopsticks!
