Why do you need to put the pan on a *wet* cloth?
Surely it makes no difference...

I guess it cools dows the bottom of the pan, thus preventing burnt rice from getting stuck there. Make sense ?

I think it's to prevent the CLOTH from being burnt. Cooking fires are bad!

The cooling idea makes more sense, as the pan won't be much more than 100 celsius for long. Otherwise just leave it on the (turned off) cooker.
