A Conversation for Acronyms

Firstly, I must agree with the writer and Will Self an acronym must be a prononceable word, otherwise it is just an abreviation.

Here are some non IT acronyms:

NCIS (pronounced "encis") - the National Criminal Intelligence Service
NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (interestingly in Francophone countries it becomes OTAN)
CAP - Common Agricultural Policy
MAFF (now defunct) - Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
LASER - Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation
SONAR - SOund NAvigation and Ranging
REME (pronounced reemee) - Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
TUPE (pronounced twopee) - Transfer of Undertakings Protection of Employment (a UK employment protection law)

from those days of teenage crushes & smutty humour:

SWALK - Sealed With A Loving Kiss
NORWICH - kNickers Off Ready When I Come Home

That will do for now - but I am sure there are a lot more genuine acronyms out there
