A Conversation for Bad Hair Day

Any discussion of bad hair days should include the topic of bad hair dye! A couple of months ago - and about 2 days before a job interview - I decided to change my hair color. I always dye my hair (usually an ash brown color), but I decided to go red this time. A nice dark auburn red.
Well, I picked up some cheap hair dye that said it was auburn; however, it turned out to be a horrid shade of orange once applied to my head! I freaked out, and my husband was quite amused, until he had to fork up the money for me to run back to the store and get a better, more expensive shade of dye!
Talk about a bad hair day.
And after all that, I still didn't get the job.

Oops! I've had many shades of hair colour and being a hairdresser at one time used to love colouring my hair, still do really! Did you get the colour you desired

I did finally get the desired colour: a dark auburn. I tend to refer to it as 'Cherry Coke!'
Unfortunately, I began going gray shortly after I got married (only a few months, actually; does that say something about my spouse?!), so I have to constantly re-colour. It used to be fun, but all the touch-ups get boring, so I occasionally let the color grow out and then find a new color. I started out life as a blonde, then my hair got darker naturally. I have been a bottle blonde, brunette, and redhead. Maybe some day I will allow the gray to take over, but I feel old enough as it is!

Know exactly how you feel, I was blonde naturaly the then like you my hair started getting darker and the rest is well history
I have little tell tale sign's at the sides that need colouring regulary which is a pain but there you go, refuse to go grey!
Glad you got your hair sorted out

Speaking of getting my hair sorted out, I guess it's time for another touch-up: I'm starting to look like a red-headed skunk!
And I need to do something with the style. I let it grow over the winter, but now I can't keep it out of my face (or my mouth!) I am driving myself nuts - I have the nervous habit of twirling it! I was hoping to let it grow long, but I don't know if I can take it!

Hi Madmum2
How about a trim for now, put some bands or clips in to keep it out of the way, then when it's really long it will get on your nerves more Ok forget that idea

Oh no! Not the Universal Orange?!
Have been there and I don't like it. This would be my advice.
Do Not (and I repeat) Do Not dye your hair in March or April otherwise it goes universal orange in May.
Do Not dye your hair in May, otherwise it just goes universal orange in June.
Do Not dye your hair anytime during British Summertime, as you are looking at universal orange.
I do mine once a year, generally in November. By the time the sun comes in April I have a grey stripe above my left eye. Luckily then the Sun cuts in and the universal orange gets lighter and I end up looking blonde....(well nearly)
It does all depend on how much time your head is exposed to sunrays, but I have spent my adult life trying to escape from universal orange!
