Is it true that Douglas Adams wrote episodes for doctor who? and is it also true that the krikkit story from the hitch-hiker's book 'Life, the Universe and Everything' was originally a doctor who script?

Yep. Douglas wrote The Pirate Planet and co-wrote City of Death under the name of David Agnew. His story of the Krikkitmen was a script written for Doctor Who but rejected. Another Doctor Who story, Shada, was abandoned after a BBC strike, though fortunately it was finally made in 2004 as an animated webcast with Paul McGann as the Doctor (you can still see this on the BBC's Doctor Who page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho/webcasts/shada/)
