I am looking for a word meaning that halfway point between step father and boyfriend-of-mother
The word has to mean "Someone who lives with your mother, and has for a good long while, but isn't married to her", so, an almost-stepdad, but not quite.
any suggestions?

Blimey - I don't know. I am really bad at coining words. I would probably say something like; 'my mother's main squeeze' or 'my mother's partner'. I guess you could say 'the father of my future half-siblings' but that is likely to make your hearers go cross-eyed.
Oh, and welcome to Hootoo, 207397. You can give yourself a name by clicking on the 'Preferences' button. Most people seem to have a prefix - which is their name (like 'a girl called Ben') and some have a suffix which is as quirky as they choose to be at the time.
Anyway, have fun here, and take care.
