Cheers for this article.
I've just printed it out to take along to the HTP. We're having problems with his lawyer getting over enthusiastic. This has put my mind at rest, that it doesn't need to be a complicated process.
Many thanks
Thankyou

Hi Toccata, I hope all goes well for you.
There is a researcher on hootoo, unfortunately I cannot remember who it is, who says that they sat side by side in the court with their spouse, holding hands. The judge apparently gave them a very odd look, as he announced that they were divorced.
The only reason I knew it was possible to do-it-yourself was because a friend of mine did, and told me so. Otherwise I'd probably still be in legal-hell, instead of phoning my ex to ask if he can take delivery of my new TV while I am at work.
The best of good luck to both of you. Drop by my personal space and let me know how it goes.
Ben

Hmmmm...I was jut about to tell you about this one kiddo! You obviously spent too much time in this place...
How's all going btw?
Thankyou

Ah he's being as 'laid back' as ever. More trouble generated by his His solicitor, and he's sitting back & letting it happen.
To top it all, my landlady wants to move into the bedsit at the end of the lease!
Thankyou

Oh hunny!
When is that then? Are you going to have to start looking soon? And can we hire a lorry for your next move? (hope that made you smile)

Take care, and take no crap! Mind you that is difficult advice, and my best advice is 'bite your tongue' - but you seem to be a pretty together person. Mind you, I know that every now and then I just wanted to sit down and howl.
It does pass - it takes a lo-o-ong time - but it *does* pass.

Cheers Guys
The lease ends late April. I'm gonna sit tight for a week or so.
He chose a lawyer the other side of the country to where we live (on a recommendation), so it's going through an unfamiliar court to my lawyers. I'm awaiting a response from him as to how long this court usually takes from submission of response papers to issuing Decree Nisi. (stage I'm currently at)
Then I can have the (already agreed) settlement & use it as a deposit on a purchase. Just don't know whether I will have the money in time to buy anywhere, so may well have to look for another flat to rent & get tied into a six month lease. Shame when the prices are rising so quickly .
Not being able to plan is the real nuisance.
Thankyou

Don't assume you can't find short term accommodation. I lodged with someone for a month recently, and am lodging now with someone else for 5 months.
Some people don't want to let out their place for 6 whole months in exactly the same way that other people don't want to rent a place for 6 months. Ask around at work. Hell - ask on h2, (though I admit when I did I got zilch back).
The ads in Supermarkets are a good source of rooms to let, and people will let rooms by the month.
The rental market is getting worse for the landlords - ie better for the tennants, and you have no idea how many wierdos rent. Working on the assumption that you will look no wierder to a landlord than you looked to me at the meet, I would say that you are in a strong position to negotiate flexible terms. Use it!
Good luck!
Ben

I'm after a flat rather than a room, I've had my own space for too long to be happy sharing, though I may take a room on short term, I think I can store the Bulk of my junk (family/friends loft/garages) as Zan hinted, there are quite a few books & heavy stuff! Don't fancy shifting it all twice though!
There are rooms advertised in newsagents etc, so I should be able to sort something....

I've been following the rather confusing news about your move and Munchkins move to Scotland in the Aetelier with interest. How are you my dear? And how did the D-thing go?

Thanks for asking I'm doing really well
The divorce was finalised in July last year. All went pretty smoothly, due to keeping my lawyers involvement to a minimum, I did lose out financially. (He signed over the bank account with the overdraft to me!)
However things are good, other than a 'friend' who disapproved stirring, I don't see him at all, and that is fine.
The only real problems were caused by Him dragging his heals over paperwork (but then that was true to character rather than malice) the 'friend' and his lawyer who suggested the bank account trick.
Still it's all behind me now; I have spent the best part of the last year in a lovely (but too expensive) flat, and follow Munchkin up to Glasgow just after Easter. I know more folk up there, can afford to try to get back onto the house ladder and should be able to find a job without too much trouble.
May even be able to have a again!
