h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

My preference for vinyl albums over CDs is not is not influenced by any special sound quality that they are said to have thatb CDs do not. I have heard people say that about vinyl but my ear is obviously not fine enough to detect it (although I do sometimes like a friendly bit of wow and hiss). What I really miss when I get my new CD home is the artwork. For my money there is little to beat the feel of a real record in my hands and something to look at and enjoy while listening. With vinyl artwork you get the visual bonus. CD artwork has never reached the same niveau, which is hardly surprising since the wee diskies are fractionally bigger than a train ticket and offer the struggling artist a real scarcity of creative space. And all that hideous sterile plastic! Ugh! Compare the Sergeant Pepper CD with the VR cover - it just can’t give you that same warm and fuzzy. And the list of great covers is endless. For instance, I just dug out The Incredible String Band’s „The 5000 Spirits or the Layers of the Onion“ In my book they don’t make ‘em like that any more. Others have their own favrav sleeves ‘Twould be interesting to know what they are.

I have to agree, CDs have no soul and are evil as for my favourite album cover, that's tough, I do like that Incredible String Band one, but I think it's got to be The Small Faces "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake" tobacco tin cover, fantastic.
